2. go in free app store, find a program that will turn your iphone to a modem
3. hook it up to the laptop and play.

Can you get free internet by using your iphone as a modem or do you have to have a data plan?

iPods are definitely nice, but a laptop is certain much more useful.
If you jailbreak your iPod Touch, I heard that it causes problems sometimes too.
Whichever decision you made (the above link is broken) I hope that you made the right choice.
